In early 1970, 0s mutants had already brought in his luggage three albums and several hits. 0 stress already had knocked at the door and the group headed by Rita Lee and brothers Sérgio and Arnaldo Dias Baptista was on vacation. Quintet since the last album, The Divine Comedy or My Rocks Off (1970), with the official members Liminha (bass) and Dinho (drums), the mutants await the solo Rita Lee Encouraged by the board of the label, notably by former President André Midani, Rita - who had been doing various fashion shows, parades and happenings - he came into the studio in St. Paul with her husband and band partner, Arnaldo Baptista, which would take the musical direction, while Manoel Barenbein produce the disc and Rogerio Duprat would make the arrangements. Os Mutantes were not so fully present in this first solo album by Rita Lee because guitarist Sergio Dias did not understand how good for the band members had other projects. The legend Lanny Gordin ended up doing the beautiful land. The repertoire
Mutantes Rita looked away, bringing with her several partnerships Élcio Decarie. But, incidentally, was the version Jose, the original French Joseph (Georges Moustaki), curiously signed by Nara Leão (at that time lived in Paris and also other version songs) that this "Build Up" entered history. Can be considered the record # 0 in the career of Rita Lee, this work was soon followed by the project Technicolor of Mutants at the end of 1970, filed on behalf of Electric Garden (71) - until it was finally released by Universal Music in 2000, exactly 30 years after its completion in Paris. When the mutants
wished to record a second album in 1972 after the Country Baurets , news that could not (or should) do two jobs in same year, eventually leading to a Brazilian twist: Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life ended up being credited with Rita Lee, as his second solo album. The singer eventually left the band in early 1973, riding the double Cilibrinas of Eden to her friend Lucia Turnbull for a few months and finally creating the group Tutti Frutti - who survived for five years following Rita.
Tutti Frutti be the third (or first?) Solo album by Rita Lee in 1973, but work did not please the band's record company's board has determined that according to its filing with the idea that Rita truly solo record an album for Philips. Behind Port A Town Has was dropped in 1974, with the success Mother Nature final mind solidifiicando Rita Lee as a solo artist a few years after her first single. Tutti Frutti, the disk closed, came to be rescued and remastered for release in 2000, only to fall again in limbo.

increasingly devoted to his music, rehearsing and traveling straight, Os Mutantes were thrilled with the opening in Sao Paulo in a modern studio then 16 channels. In mid- 1972, the year he had recorded and released an album ( Mutants and comets in their country of baurets ), they decided to try the novelty. They entered the newly opened studio and recorded Eldorado Today is the first day of the rest of his life , which would leave in October like it was a solo release from Rita Lee In fact, Rita shines on the disk. Participates in the composition of seven of the ten tracks, and sings almost all on top designed the cover. More
a work produced by Arnaldo Baptista, who also plays keyboards and sings, and it has as musicians Sergio Dias Baptista (guitar, vocals), Arnolpho Lima Filho, Liminha (bass and vocals) and Ronald Pace Rudder, Dinho (drums), is a record of Mutants. If anyone still in doubt, just put the CD in the player and turn up the sound.
Corner Swan one of the most creative rock bands of this country, Today is the first day of the rest of his life is also the most experimental of the group's records. The first track, We treat health the last, the planet's climate Surface , daring splashes of sound, instrumental competence and technical perfection. Today is the first day ... has a tango ( Kiss my mouth ) sung by Rita and guitar Serginho. It is no exaggeration. Using the mouth to make resonance, Sérgio Dias makes his guitar sing.
On another track, the delicious samba-tribute to the Corinthians, My love black and white Sergio again use the trick and makes the guitar sound like a cartoon duck. In the recording, the mutants used another trick, much repeated years later. As background, they put the story of a football game. The disc is filled with such boldness, culminating in a studio chat about recording a particular song. Rita suggests the use of four voices in each of 16 channels. Said and done. The overlap forms the huge choir of 64 voices that adorns Here again my good Joseph . It was a farewell, though. The following year, Os Mutantes debuted a show in Rio Rita Lee no longer what it was sweet, over. Or rather, it spread.

WHEN Rita Lee left the mutants, had left an incipient and still undervalued solo (composed by the disks Build Up, made for a project of Rhodia, and Today is the first day of the rest of his life, released an album of mutants on their behalf for not compete with the disk group that was launched just before). Not knowing what to do in life, had contemplated several options, even to give up music. And even suicide. Virtually
following, even unintentionally, the footsteps of his idol David Bowie, Rita tried to get into folk, joined with her friend Lucia Turnbull Music and goddaughter and rode the Cilibrinas of Eden, who played acoustic rock costumed fairy flying. The duo lasted long enough to hold a concert at the festival flopped Phono 73 (soon on this blog) in 1973, and quit. The season was for progressive rock, hard rock, courageous and colossal things. Who do rock that would sound loud. Outside glitter rock has dominated the scene, the forerunners of punk were arguably the most modern, progressive rock was king, David Bowie was the badass guitar and spatial Marc Bolan was what was good. In Brazil MPB was politicized and censored, tortured, an incipient stage rocker and relegated to the underground, beyond the double unfailing samba and soccer. Behind that was standing in the harbor ... arrived in stores.
BEFORE: The way Rita Lee left the mutants is somewhat obscure until now: whether it was expelled, if left because he wanted ... It is said that when attempting to use instruments like moog and mellotron (private progressive rock bands, a style that the mutants were doing around 72/73) in band rehearsals, Rita heard jokes - even tried to insert his synthesizer in the arrangement of jazz-rock runt "Send a hug to old" (ironic swan song of the band) and was vetoed outright. According to biographer Carlos Calado, the thing was a crescendo until Arnold said there was more room for Rita in the band (and there was even - with ten minutes of music, instrumental flights and guitarist Sergio singing increasingly seemed relegated to Rita a decorative paper, unfair to those who had thought up a good part of the follies of Mutants). Separate
Mutantes, Rita married again (with Mick Killingbeck, a combination of producer, businessman, cultural activist and guru of LSD) and began composing a new repertoire, different from what was causing the mutants and completely free from the shackles of progressive then. "Mother Nature", the first song that came out of these writing sessions, he brought a letter in the report now resigned, now Rita hopeful about their expectations for a solo career, in which Rita lunged and gave everything to God ("I'm in lap of Mother Nature / She takes care of my head / I know it is not even good to cry / The mother does not dessert). Not that it looked like Rita would dominate the charts years later.
After an experiment gone wrong to show opening for the mutants (with Cilibrinas, who made a folk sound and insignificant for the time), Rita decided to drop from his mouth in hard rock. He joined a gang, as she came from Pompeii (quarter-Barn musicians of Sao Paulo), and rode the Tutti-Frutti. The group name can be understood both as a reference to the famous hit sung by Little Richard, about the ascendancy of Italian musicians in the band (Luiz Sergio Carlini on guitar, Emilson Colantonio Marcucci Lee on drums and bass, not to mention her friend Lucia Turnbull ). By the book hard way through the season and glitter influenciadíssima by groups and artists such as Slade, David Bowie and others, Rita was launched on the market definitively, as if this was your first album. Remember that in 70 years, female rocker was not something you would find around any corner - women band-leaders then were absurd.
THE SHOW: With the band formed, Rita began to make their first appearances in St. Paul. The first concerts, which took contributions from people like Ze Rodrix, Monica Lisbon (former manager of Rita) and Antonio Bivar direction, became classics. The show has gained critical praise and making Rita (now definitely on a solo career) more famous. The only thing that nascent rolling was that in almost all presentations, Arnold used to go sit in the front row and be grimacing in disapproval for Rita (!). At the time, the two spoke little, though Arnold has even come to live with Rita after times, when it was sunk in drugs.
DISK: Behind The LP has a port city came out in June 1974 and the guy had trouble with the label. As Philips has always wanted to take Rita Mutantes (a fact that was revealed by the Liminha, former bassist of the group, in an interview in 80 years), Rita began to be more polished than usual by the record. As Arnaldo Baptista Loki recorded her album ", the same year (and that was to fly) in St. Paul himself, Rita moved to Rio and stayed in an apartment in Santa Teresa, along with the staff band. The intent of the label was that Rita could be better targeted at "working group" Philips - composed of thinkers, intellectuals and people from the label, as Paulo Coelho, Roberto Menescal, Nelson Motta, André Midani and others - in order to manage his career best. The meetings usually took place in hotels like the Rio and the Copacabana Palace Hotel Meridien. Philips wanted Rita was at least one superstar. Rita wanted to do rock and roll, "hard rock" as they were then.
Powered by Mazola, the record ended up not going out there a lot to like Rita - who declared that "the label took me a star and the disk came out sloppy. "Conceptual problems between her and the production ended up leaving the disc farther than she dreamed: a studio recording was made in Rio by Philips - the best studio to record rock at the time was the Eldorado in Sao Paulo - and the mix got out weird. The band even appeared Tutti-Frutti - integer Emilson was eventually replaced by studio musicians and the sessions were attended by people like the band Azymuth. This, however, did not diminish the value disc: Even with so many problems ... Behind the port still is one of the best albums of Rita. Lyrically, Rita sent encrypted messages to friends, for the record, for the mutants and even to men of power.
BAND-A-BAND
"down to earth": The first track on the disc was a fox-hard-rock and T. Rex, whose lyrics are filled with ironic messages and encrypted. At the time, even Rita's sexuality was called into question, which certainly generated the verses of the song.
"YO NO CREO, PERO ...": Half mystic, half anti-dictatorship (" Handle bar / loose ...") The witch is the second song is one of the most progressive album, entitled to Rita taking some notes and doing solinhos of mellotron moog.
"addressing the ball" Rock'n roll animadaço, accompanied by clapping and lyrics clearly addressed by Arnaldo Baptista ("yesterday I found a little friend of childhood / That living calling me silly). If one day the staff of Stone Temple Pilots put his hand on that disk will go mad.
"PRETTY BOY": Legend has it that the record company asked that the record had at least one more romantic music and Rita did this, which became the most successful LP. The original arrangement was very minimalist, with just piano, bass and vocals - and Rita did not even hear the final result. With the disc in stores one day Rita was shopping at the supermarket when suddenly plays "Beautiful Boy" on the radio: The record company had added an array of strings without warning breguíssimo the artist.
"sock" Boogie rock riffs with almost stonianos (or Sladianos, with a little goodwill), sung in duet by Rita and Lucia.
"MOTHER NATURE" Rockarnaval visceral and explicit, showing itself in the face of Rita and Tutti-Frutti. It was the first hit after leaving the singer's definitely the mutants. Luiz Carlini, one of the best guitarists of Brazil, makes some of the coolest solos ever made on the national territory.
"Ando Jururu" Rescued by the year 1990 and by Raimundos Zambianchi Kiko, the outburst of Rita before esquemão showbiz still sounds current. Millennia before the Planet Hemp (who also played this song in some shows) Rita has rhymed "I know I have to do" with "mushroom zebu.
"ECLIPSE COMET" The moment paulocoelhal disc - actually a good message for a nation that, at the time, lived downcast. "And people need him / to hold their heads / but look good, baby / You do not need comets
" vicious cycle ": With excerpts from the letter embezzled from" neurasthenia "(in Betina, successful pre-garde Young) is another time prog LP. Includes a long instrumental passage in which the Tutti-Frutti throws and rolls. The phrase "I just want to play with your head ..." says everything about music.
"... HAVE A CITY" Strange Vignette instrumental inspiration clearly blacksabbathiana of just Rita. It suggests that there was something else there that may have been censored.
