ARNALDO BAPTISTA - LOKI - 1974?
in Brazilian pop, there are few that have eschewed the language barrier and built fundamental work. Amid the progressive syndromes, the invasion of Nordésia and "Rockai pauleira" in early 74, that LP has emerged not only as an antidote to these trends, but also as a radical and unique work of Brazilian rock.
Recorded in terrible emotional conditions - Rita Lee Arnold had lost forever - after he left the mutants, the disc, and the participation of three former members (drummer Dinho, bassist Liminha and Rita in the backing-vocals), with arrangements by Rogerio Duprat. Recording rushed provided a unique punch and, given his emotional state, Loki? turned out to be the greatest existential treatise of Brazilian rock, something worthy of suicidal despair of the nouvelle vague, the painful unbridled anger of angry young men of British poets and visionaries who saw the dark side of reality.
Arnaldo demonstrated what it means to love to lose the name, look for the artificial paradises from the disintegration of the soul and go below deck forbidden feelings, giving vent to the depths of life and announcing the death tateada sketches, though not consummated. These previews, it now seemed to be aware of the bitter fate transformations that defined his tattooed by a suicide attempt in 1980, after having created the hallucinatory Space Patrol.
If verbatim, proved genius, musically nothing left in the duty, ie from the heart ripped from his voice and a sensitive piano classical design, it travels through the rock fabric with masterfully eclectic, ranging from the saddest ballads to progressive rocks, through shades of bossa, jazz, funk and blues.
The first track on the LP, the beautiful rock'n'roll ballad "What Will I I'll Flip Mold? ", Using the title as a motto, ironically draws a parallel between the future and his love of rock'n'roll, both threatened with extinction. The following" One Person Only, "arranged by Duprat, reassembles the beautiful golden dreams of 71/72, when the mutants lived in community in the Serra da Cantareira trip in a conference where it was possible to be "a single person." "No I'm Not There" is a beat-ballad tones sprayed by bluesísticos / jazzy in which, shaded by the (im) possibility of forgetting the "evils", he defies death so sarcastic. In "I'll Sink in Lingerie," a bluesy-popster first line installs the absolute avoidance of mundo real "deslanchando bem embaixo" e propondo afogar as mágoas no deslumbre da natureza e na relatividade das pequenas.
"Te Amo, Podes Crer", uma balada of amour fou, embodies the mourning of an abandoned reveals that: "Over time I stop playing / I hope the apocalypse then I find you," a verse that would sum up his prophetic future. In closing, the folk-psychedelic "It Easy," microssíntese of absolute love.
If today his work is legendary, know that Arnold has paid dearly for all this passion carried to extremes. "I've read all the books and know that" flesh is sad. "
